A health check is when the doctor checks if you are healthy.
You don’t need to be ill to get a health check. But you can ask your doctor about anything that is hurting or worrying you.
It is a good idea to have a health check 1 time every year.
It is especially important for those with a learning disability to see their doctor regularly regardless of their age.
Most GP practices now hold a voluntary register of all people with a learning disability that are registered with them, called a Learning Disability Register.
Since 2015, the register should include all ages, not just those over 18 and all those on the register over the age of 14 should be offered an annual health check.
